Biography
Melissa started painting at an early age, inspired by her late grandfather who had been accepted into The RCA in London. Melissa excelled at art during her school days. After leaving school she studied Architecture at Queens University and graduated in 2001. After graduating she worked as an interior designer to help finance her real passion, painting.
She held her first exhibition in Northern Ireland in 2006 at The Riverside Theatre, Coleraine which was very successful. Following the success of this initial exhibition, she has had further exhibitions throughout Northern Ireland. She has a constant demand for commissions.
Melissa's unique quirky style can be identified immediately. Her comic and colorful interpretation of life and current affairs is a light relief from reality. Her paintings combine both art and cartoons, Artoons. She uses local streetscapes and buildings as a stage upon which to place her characters. She works in acrylic and mixed media on canvas or board. Recently, Melissa has added ceramics to her portfolio of quirky art.
